Alabama loses Defensive End from 2018 class

Defense wins championships. Nick Saban is known for being one of the best defensive minds in football. His defenses at Alabama have all finished in the top ten in the nation and many times at number one but even Saban couldn’t predict this to happen.

SBNation and RollBamaRoll reported earlier that Jordan Davis will head to community college rather than join the rest of his recruit classmates. Davis had not reported to Tuscaloosa leaving many people with questions but it has now been determined that he is declared academically ineligible.

This is a huge loss for Alabama because he could’ve been a great asset on the defensive line depth for the 2018 year. While Raekwon Davis and Isaiah Buggs return to headline this position group and LaBryan Ray and Quinnen Williams will provide depth, defensive linemen are becoming more vital with hurry up offenses becoming more common. Alabama did sign Eyabi Anoma and Cameron Latu from this class and Jarez Parks who didn’t play in 2017 due not having a scholarship but this loss hurts.

The JUCO college route is fairly common in college football in fact many notable players from Alabama have come from JUCO such as Savion Smith, Terrance Cody and Isaiah Buggs. The defensive line rotates in players for specific plays and that may be the case for this year without Jordan Davis. Davis is set to enroll at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. Copiah-Lincoln produced DeQuan Menzie who was an All American cornerback at Alabama. Davis will have the opportunity to play and a chance to choose a college when he is eligible once again.
