Jalen Hurts leads Oklahoma to Big 12 title and a likely spot in CFP

Tim Heitman - USA TODAY Sports

The motion picture script for Jalen Hurts keeps getting better.

He has lifted two different teams in two different conferences under two different coaches to a conference championship, with his latest one coming on Saturday. A native of Houston, Texas, Hurts shared a hug and a smile with Sooners’ coach, Lincoln Riley as he led Oklahoma to a 30-23 overtime win over Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game.

He completed 17 of 24 passes for 287 yards with one touchdown to one interception. Hurts and CeeDee Lamb continue to be a dominant tandem, as the playmaker at wide receiver brought in eight catches for 173 yards.

He showed Alabama fans his brilliance in last year’s Southeastern Conference title game, and supporters of the Sooners see it now.

Hurts will head to New York City as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, but something else is also on his mind.

A win for LSU over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game will send the former Crimson Tide standout into the College Football Playoff.

Hurts will then have an opportunity to win his first national championship as a starter. He has been on an incredible journey and it’s one that he desires to end with the CFP Trophy.

Congratulations to Hurts.
