Eddie Lacy Makes Weight In First Weigh-In

Cedric Mason - Touchdown Alabama Magazine

Weight has always shrouded Eddie Lacy’s career. Despite multiple 1000-yard seasons, the focus has always returned to his size. At the end of last season, Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy publicized his feelings on Lacy’s weight, stating that “[Eddie] cannot play at the weight he was at this year.”

A year has passed, and Lacy has switched teams. He signed with Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks this offseason on a one-year contract worth up to $4.25 million. A part of that contract? Weigh-ins.

Seven separate weigh-ins, according to ESPN, each worth a $55,000 bonus check. Each weigh-in has a specified target weight: 255 today, 250 in June’s, then 245 from September to December. In all, Eddie can pull in up to $385,000 in incentives based on just his weight.

Reports have surfaced that he was in fact able to meet his goal of 255 by two pounds – weighing in at 253 pounds.

Once his ankle injury he suffered last season has time to fully heal, we could see the return of Mr. Circle Button this year. If he can make keeping weight look as easy as he does spinning past a couple defenders, it will be easy money in Lacy’s pocket.
