BREAKING: Titans Appear All-In on Derrick Henry with Release of DeMarco Murray

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans and their new head coach, Mike Vrabel, appear all-in on the former Heisman Trophy winning running back, Derrick Henry, with their latest move. Thursday afternoon, reports surfaced of the Titans’ plan to cut veteran running back, DeMarco Murray, pushing Henry to the top of the depth chart.

Playing through a string of injuries, Murray posted the lowest rushing totals of his seven-year career. He managed just 659 yards and six scores on 184 attempts for a lowly 3.6 yards-per-attempt average – also tied for the worst in his career.

On the other hand, Henry posted tremendous numbers in his second season. He out-gained Murray on less touches, going for 744 yards and five touchdowns on just 176 attempts (4.2 YPA). He was a significant part of their comeback playoff win over the Chiefs, rushing for 156 yards and a touchdown while also adding another through the air in Murray’s absence.

Clearly, the Titans’ new management feel Henry is ready for spotlight behind Marcus Mariota. With the proper moves in this year’s draft, he and his teammates could become a true dark horse to make next seasons’s Super Bowl.
