Taulia Tagovailoa and Stone Hollenbach both lead their teams to playoff wins this weekend.

Tagovailoa and the Thompson Warriors continued their playoff run by knocking off reigning state champs, Hoover. Thompson was trailing late in the game and had to lean on Tagovailoa’s arm to lead them on a 85 yard drive while rain poured onto the field. He delivered two clutch passes on that drive.

Thompson’s runningback, Shadrick Byrd, ran a 1 yard touchdown in to put Thompson up 31-28 with a couple of seconds on the board. Tagovailoa finished the game 12-of-28 for 228 yards and one touchdown.

Thompson will play in the of the 7-A AHSAA Championship on Dec. 5 against Central Pheonix City High School.

Hollenbach and Southern Columbia had a smoother game against York Catholic on Saturday. The Tigers won 56-23 on the backs of Hollenbach’s impressive performance. He went 8-of-10 for 250 yards and thee touchdowns. He played all the first half and watched majority of the second half from the sideline.

Southern Columbia will play West Catholic in the semifinals of the PIAA football championships on Nov. 30.
