Urban Meyer’s retirement could affect Alabama’s recruiting

Justin Smith-Touchdown Alabama Magazine

Urban Meyer’s retirement could open the door for Alabama with several recruits in multiple recruiting classes.

It is said constantly in the recruiting realm, that recruits should commit to a program and not a head coach. Although this is good advice, it doesn’t happen all the time. Head coaches hit the recruiting trail and use their personality and acheivements to sell their program. This often times works and a recruit feels confident enough in the head coach to verbally commit to their program.

Urban Myer’s departure has caused college football fans’ to become intrigued about how the Buckeyes’ 2019 class will shake out. The Tide have made it clear, that they would like to add Buckeyes’ commit and 4-Star defensive back, Jordan Battle. He took an official visit to Alabama on Nov. 9.

Alabama’s coaching staff is hitting the road and visiting several recruits at the moment. Battle will most definetely get a visit from Alabama and the Tide will be the favorite if he chooses to de-commit from Ohio State.

4-Star wide receiver, Jameson Williams, is another Buckeye commit, that the Tide was in the running for before his commitment. He could be another recruit to look out for. Although, Alabama has shown that they do not mind just having one wideout commit in the 2019 class.

Alabama’s future recruiting class could also benefit from Meyer’s departure. Alabama and Ohio States are constant foes on the recruiting trail.

2020 4-Star wide receiver, Rakim Jarret, has Alabama and Ohio State in his top 4. His teammmates 2020 5-Star outside linebacker, Mekhail Sherman, and 2020 4-Star defensive tackle, Tre Williams, also have Alabama and Ohio State among their top schools.
