Best scenario for Alabama at OC with Locksley heading to Maryland

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY Sports

Huge news in the coaching carousel was reported on Tuesday as Alabama offensive coordinator, Michael Locksley, accepted the head coaching position at University of Maryland.

While he can follow in the footsteps of former Crimson Tide assistants – Kirby Smart and Jeremy Pruitt – in terms of helping the program win a national championship prior to leaving, the decision will be on Locksley after he is introduced on Thursday as the Terrapins head man.

Although he will place matters of hiring a new play caller following the College Football Playoff, Nick Saban may already have someone in mind to call up.

This season, however, has been the most exciting one offensively of his 12 years at Alabama – especially with Locksley coaching the unit to averaging 47.9 points and 528 total yards a game through 13 matchups.

He was the recipient of the Broyles Award, becoming the second assistant coach in Tide history (Kirby Smart, 2009) to win the honor bestowed upon college football’s top assistant.

Despite the multitude of suitors that would relish a chance to work under Saban, there is one lethal combination the Tide can have in terms of offensive coaches. Listed below is the best possible scenario for the offseason in the Tide’s search to fill its offensive coordinator spot.
