He might want to keep this football, but there is more coming for him.

After toiling on the practice squad, wide receiver Gehrig Dieter was activated to the 53-man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this season. A hardworking athlete from South Bend, Ind., Dieter has formed relationships with the biggest stars on the team – including quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, wide receiver Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce.

While his determination got him activated, Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid decided to rewarded the young man he nicknamed “sheep dog” with a special moment on Sunday against Oakland.

In the same matchup that saw Mahomes toss his 50th touchdown pass of the year, Dieter would record his first career reception in the National Football League – a 22-yard grab from Chad Henne, the backup quarterback. It may have been small to most; however, the 6-foot-3 target celebrated the opportunity by flexing like former Alabama running back, Derrick Henry.

Something special to note on Dieter is he’s always on a championship team.

He was a two-time Mid-American Conference champion at Bowling Green State University and won a Southeastern Conference title in his one season at the University of Alabama in 2016.

Dieter showed his ability to be a primary receiver at Bowling Green and he also displayed a versatile side at Alabama, in him as a pass catcher, blocking and fixture on special teams.

With the Chiefs getting a 35-3 win over the Raiders, Dieter is on a team that’s clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs at 12-4.

He would want nothing more than to show this franchise what he is capable of doing in the postseason. For now, Dieter continues to grind and provide the team anything it needs to make a push toward Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta.
