REPORT: Miami hires Dan Enos away from UA as offensive coordinator

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY Sports

While a few players announced decisions on Wednesday morning to pursue the upcoming NFL Draft, Alabama’s coaching staff under Nick Saban suffers another blow.

Following the departures of Michael Locksley, Josh Gattis, Brent Key and Butch Jones, quarterbacks’ coach Dan Enos has now been hired away. It was a far-gone conclusion that he would replace Locksley at offensive coordinator next season; however, it is being reported that the 50-year-old has officially accepted a play caller position at the University of Miami.

News initially came from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

In his lone year with the Crimson Tide, Enos groomed Tua Tagovailoa into being the fourth 3,000-yard passer (3,966) of the Saban era and greatly improved Jalen Hurts. He assisted an offense that averaged 45.6 points per game (most under Saban) and 522 yards per matchup.

Behind Enos, Tagovailoa became a Heisman finalist and consensus All-American.

The quarterback cultivator also helped the Tide’s group of receivers as five players totaled at least 500 yards, including a 1,000-yard target in Jerry Jeudy. He earned the Fred Biletnikoff Award and was a consensus All-American, due to his 1,315 yards receiving and 14 scores.

Enos earned a Southeastern Conference championship and appeared with Alabama in its fifth consecutive College Football Playoff run. Prior to the Tide, he spent time at Arkansas as an offensive coordinator (2015-17) and Central Michigan as a head coach from 2010 to 2014.
