New Orleans RB Mark Ingram stood out despite losing effort against Atlanta

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

While Julio Jones (calf) got the win, Mark Ingram had more production in New Orleans’ meeting against Atlanta on Monday night. Ingram, a six-year veteran, got loose against the Falcons defense as a running back and receiver. He totaled 107 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches, including 77 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Ingram brought in four passes from Drew Brees for 30 yards, with one grab resulting in a five-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Prior to the score, Ingram’s hands came up huge on a 17-yard reception in the first half.

His catch was part of a 75-yard drive (12 plays), which ended game-tying touchdown pass to Michael Thomas (14-14) in the second quarter. Ingram’s successful two-point conversion cut the Saints’ deficit in 35-25 in the third quarter; however, New Orleans would fall 45-32 at home. The former Alabama back and 2009 Heisman winner is winless in three games with New Orleans, but has yet to be featured much on offense this season.

Ingram signed a four-year, $16 million extension in 2015, after posting two 1,000-yard seasons (2014-15).
