It was interesting to note that freshman wide receiver Slade Bolden was the scout-team quarterback on Wednesday, to prepare Alabama's defense for the option attack it will face against the Citadel. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder from Louisiana played in a in high school offense (West Monroe) that is "similar to what the Bulldogs run" according to Nick Saban.

"I think the look he's given us has been good," Saban said of Bolden. "I think that's the most difficult thing about playing against this offense is it happens so much faster during the game than whatever you can duplicate in practice. Their guy (Citadel) that's played the last two games at quarterback has rushed for a couple 100 yards in each game. He really needs to be a running back, so he is really a challenge. Slade is a little bit like that, so at least I think we are getting a decent picture on the perimeter."

Bolden was one of the nation's top two-way athletes coming in the 2018 recruiting cycle and a four-star prospect via Rivals. A former high school quarterback, Bolden threw 1,622 yards with 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,460 yards and 20 scores as a senior in 2017.

Jordan Black, junior quarterback for the Citadel, has 471 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns on 113 carries in nine games. Like Bolden, Black wears No. 10.
