When redshirt sophomore Deonte Brown went out with a turf toe injury against Mississippi State, Alabama's offensive line lost its juice in both run blocking and pass protection.Â
As good as Lester Cotton should be, he has not shown the consistency to be reliable at left guard and starting him moving forward would place the Crimson Tide in a tough spot against Auburn, Georgia and the potential defensive fronts in the College Football Playoff.
While it would rather have Brown healthy, when should the Tide start looking at Matt Womack at left guard? He was the team's starting right tackle a season ago, and held his own for the most part in setting up the rushing attack. He is not the most elite in pass protection; however, his size -- 6'7" and 326 pounds -- makes for a perfect road grader inside.
Alabama fans, what say you?
