First drive of the game for Alabama: The Tide takes it 73 yards down the field on nine plays. Damien Harris caps it off with a one-yard TD run.
Alabama running it right at this Mississippi State DL, and they're having a ton of success doing it. Josh Jacobs continues to be one of the most underrated running backs in the country.
First drive of the game for Mississippi State: Three-and-out for the Bulldogs.
Nick Fitzgerald was 1-for-1 on that drive for 8 yards. The question is whether he can consistently win from the pocket against this Alabama pass rush. They'll start getting him on the move soon enough. Big play from Isaiah Buggs on third-and-short.
Alabama goes up 14-0 with 2:48 in Q1: Alabama has ran the ball 16 times already for 89 yards (a 5.6-yard average). They've come a long way the last two weeks. A lot of that has to do with Deonte Brown being inserted at LG.
Quinnen Williams is one of the most disruptive defenders I've ever scouted. He's constantly causing problems in the backfield. There's no way he makes it out of the top 10 come April.
INJURY UPDATE: Starting LG Deonte Brown limped to the sideline. He's been taken to the medical tent. Lester Cotton comes in to replace him.
First quarter recap: Alabama absolutely dominated on both sides of the football.
Defensively, the Tide held Mississippi State to 13 total yards, zero first downs and zero points. On offense, they managed to get a healthy dosage of Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs (both players had exactly six rushes for 33 yards and TD each). Tua was only asked to throw the ball six times, but he completed five of them (83.3 percent) for 67 yards.
Mike Bernier with the 37-yard punt to pin State down at their own one-yard line. His emergence has been huge for Alabama's special teams.Â
INJURY UPDATE: Deonte Brown is out of the medical tent. He's still not out there with the offense, however.
Update: Tough break for the Alabama offense. Tua Tagovailoa tried to pull it, but fumbled the exchange. Mississippi State recovered at their own 29-yard line.
How do you consistently stop this Alabama offense? The State defensive front came to play, but they can only do so much.
Josh Jacobs takes the swing pass from Tua Tagovailoa in for a TD to make it 21-0.
What a crazy sequence in the red zone for Mississippi State. Two touchdowns brought back due to penalties, Alabama brought the house on a third-down blitz and then the missed field goal.
Halftime score: Alabama 21, Mississippi State 0
Great job by Mississippi State's strong-side LB, Willie Gay, for sitting down and snagging that INT. Tagovailoa obviously didn't see him.
Tua Tagovailoa's knee continues to be an issue.
Offensive line struggling to keep him upright certainly isn't helping. State is getting creatively defensively, and Alabama doesn't have an answer.Â
INJURY UPDATE: Tua Tagovailoa is still in the medical tent. Mac Jones is in at QB for Alabama.
