Before the Crimson Tide takes the practice field today at 3:40 p.m. for its sixth practice, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine has some important notes from the first five days of camp.

-A real battle is brewing for backup quarterback between Bryce Young and Paul Tyson. Last week, Tyson was behind Mac Jones in positional drills while Young was behind Jones on Monday.

-Both players bring a lot to the table, but a strong competition is happening.

-Nick Saban likes the depth he has at running back, but continue to watch Roydell Williams. He will get much more than just opportunities on special teams. According to a close source, the true freshman has an 'Adrian Peterson' type of mindset with the football.

-The No. 3 receiving option behind Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle will end up being by committee. John Metchie, Slade Bolden, Javon Baker and Xavier Williams are having a time separating from each other. Depth is really big here too.

-While true freshman Brian Branch could win the starting job at "star" (nickel), watch for Ronald Williams Jr. The team likes his length, size, speed and athleticism at the position.

-Malachi Moore, a four-star safety, is another true freshman that is not only pushing for playing time but can possibly be a starter in the secondary. He had the big hit on Thaiu Jones-Bell at practice and from watching him, he's got some Vinnie Sunseri to his game.

-Other true freshmen that could see playing time on defense, include William Anderson, Drew Sanders, Chris Braswell, Quandarrius Robinson and Timothy Smith.

-The depth at OLB is great, but Quandarrius Robinson is the sleeper of the group. Per a source, he may be the next Courtney Upshaw if he can fill out his body.

-Robinson is currently 6'5" and 220 pounds.

-Darrian Dalcourt, sophomore, took snaps at center on Monday and looked really comfortable. The Maryland native played 69 snaps as a backup in 2019 and is naturally gifted at the position.
