First there was Jalen... we lost our minds because we never had a QB like him. Then we got Tua and we lost our minds because we never had a QB like him. Now we wonder how we can win if our QB can’t play? I have said before that I am not knocking AJ or Greg or even Jake..... all did well but it was our run game and defense that won for us. We wore the opponent down on both sides of the ball. Why did we lose to Clemson? They had a great defense... and a great run game with some passing in there. But the defense won the game. Our lack of coaching kind of helped them but I won’t go there on this thread. The Bama Factor is Run run run ... pass ... run run run play DEFENSES! That is who we are and that is how we will win 18 !!!!!?????

We've proven we can win without a "stud" quarterback. The 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017 teams had solid defenses and arguably some with the most dominant in team history (2011 & 2015). I said this in another thread, but I believe Tua is new territory for Saban, and possibly uncomfortable at times. He would love to do what you have stated which is to control the game on the ground and have his defense demolish in a slower, methodical pace. With Tua, he can literally change the score in a few plays. He's never had a quarterback like this.

If our defense comes together we should be really really good and it won't matter who are quarterback is.

Yes you did say that in another thread and I agreed ... Tua is different but even different still needs defense and that has always been our strength... we get the defense set and there really is no stopping us.

Only concern I have about defense is linebacker depth. That scares me.

As a long time fan, like many I am accustomed to Bama having a strong, dominant defense. We need it, we win with it. Our QB was always the game manager. Tua is an asset that can take us to the next level but not by himself. I agree that we need to Run Da Bawl! A QB with a strong arm and who can occasionally pick up some yards adds extra dimension to our game. 2019 here we come!

Our defense will be better this year in my opinion therefore not as much pressure on Tua later in the year ROLL TIDE

Yes.. Q being gone is a slight concern... but we have great guys coming back from injury that want to make a statement. Plus we have a good D coach... I don’t think he is looking ahead to his next coaching job. Let’s fly under the radar and then blow every body away come Natty time!

The game has become more of a passing league. This is the reason why fans and media alike are all over Tua Tagovailoa. Not too many players can spin the ball with the exact same type of accuracy, precision, timing and trajectory that he can along with throwing passes at different speeds with anticipation. However, the defense and rushing attack makes Alabama football what it is. The return of teachers from the coaching aspect will tremendously help the defense and having a pure RBs coach in Charles Huff from Mississippi State should produce the Tide a 1,000-yard back next season. QB play is very important; however, having that balance is what Saban truly wants to get back to.  A mixture of quick strike drives and soul-crushing ones.

Speaking of QB, Saban announced Tua as the starter. I think we have a good roster as backup. I may have missed it but what order of merit do you think for Taulia, Mac Jones, & Paul Tyson? I saw an interview where Mac was very confident.

Mac's number 2 for sure and we need that. I like Paul T. to and heard alot of good things about him. Taulia just worries me a bit with his size but a 5'9 qb won the hiesman so that dont matter lol
