Larry’s Losers in the SEC – Week 6
By: Larry Burton
Ok sports fans! Here it is! The first of the big “Super Weeks” in the SEC where it’s good teams against good teams and ranked teams take on ranked teams. This is the week where the SEC starts cannibalizing itself and removing teams from the undefeated list. This is the week where the winners can keep the dream alive for one more week and the losers know that this loss could be the one that drags the dream away from them.
As for last week, all went well until once again South Carolina let us down like they have all season long. The pooch and I would be killing this season’s picks if those Chickens would just stop laying eggs when they’re supposed to win and winning when they’re supposed to lose. I’m upset and the pigskin pickin’ pooch wants to sink his teeth in those Clukers and pluck them silly for all the harm they’re doing our perfect picks.
But this week, we’ve been watching how the upset bug flies and we think we’re finally one step ahead of him and that these picks will prove to be proficient perfection. So starting the picks by kickoff time, let’s get started now.
Florida at Tennessee – After taking a week a week off to lick their wounds from being trampled in Tuscaloosa by the tusked ones, Muschamp brings his mud lizards up to Tennessee in hopes of getting these Gators back on good side of the losing list.
Meanwhile, these valiant Volunteers are trying to prove that last week’s “could’a, should’a, would’a” game against #12 Georgia was no fluke and that they want to stake their claim to second best SEC East team with a victory here at home.
This was supposed to be the year the Gators got it all together, but instead Tennessee Volunteered to take that away from them, so whether it’s an upset or not, the Vols finally start to make some headway. Larry’s loser – Florida
Texas A&M at Mississippi State – Last week these Aggies were lucky to get out of Jerry’s World with both a win and their butts as the Razorbacks gave them about all they could handle.
This week they venture down to Starkvegas and the odds are that the upset bug is gonna bite them just about as hard as these big ‘ol bulldogs and home field could certainly be an issue in this one as everybody knows a dog’s gonna protect his own yard.
Call it an upset if you want to, but both the pigskin pickin’ pooch and I see this as the game where Mullen’s Mutts finally live up to the preseason predictions and prove that they are finally big enough to get off the portch and run with the big dogs. Larry’s Loser – Texas A&M
Alabama at Ole Miss – Nick Saban’s Tuscaloosa tusked ones travel down to the Grove to grind up the Rebels and maintain their groove in the SEC’s West race.
Laying in wait are the Ole Miss Rebels who traded in their black powder muskets for some new elephant guns. This could very well be the game that determines the SEC West race and Hugh Freeze thinks that this is the year it finally goes Ole Miss’ way.
Home field is a wonderful thing in a close fought game and the boys in Vegas started out with the Tide only being a 4 point favorite, but they see something that Bacardi and I just don’t see as we both see the Tide pulling away at the end by a comfortable margin. Larry’s Loser – Ole Miss
Vanderbilt at Georgia – The Song City Sailors sail South to try and celebrate an upset over these Bulldogs who may be overlooking this clan of Commodores. They’re hoping that the Bulldog’s are still breathing a sigh of relief over the hard fought contest they found themselves in last week and aren’t up to a another fight just yet.
But with the loss of the Carolina Cluckers last week, these Dogs know that they’re back in the hunt for the SEC East title and they are going to let these tribe of Tennesseeans trip them up.
This game could get the Georgia’s top dog, Todd Gurley, a shot at the Heisman, because we don’t see Vandy having an answer to this guy’s talent level. It could get real ugly real quick. Larry’s loser – Vanderbilt
LSU at Auburn – Les Miles thinks he has the Tiger quarterback conundrum under control now and he travels his Tabbies down to the plains for the cat fight that that’s gonna be a dandy.
Now while LSU has already stubbed their foot, the Bama brand of Bengals aren’t going to bottom out against these Cajun Kitties and have their season stolen so soon.
While the pooch and I haven’t made up our minds how good or bad LSU or Auburn is this year based on the teams they’ve played and the way they may or may not have improved, we feel that the tribe of Tigers from Alabama have a lot more to play for and will find a way to pull it out. Larry’s loser – LSU
South Carolina at Kentucky – Kentucky in now in the winner’s column in the SEC after sinking the Sailors from Vandy last week and they aim to keep the ball rolling this week by entertaining the Carolina Cluckers who already have two bad stumbles in this season.
This was the season that the old Ball Coach was to get to Atlanta, but with two losses, the best he can hope for now is another 11 win season and a trip to a good bowl game.
While the Kentucky Kitties have looked good at times this season, they haven’t looked good against a team with the caliber of talent of this team of prized pullets, so look for the boys with feathers to fly past these Cats after a good pecking. Larry’s loser – Kentucky
And that’s the end of this week’s picks, but the beginning of the great action that will go on this weekend. Folks, if you are even remotely are fond of football, then this is the time to travel to the television and truly transcend in triumphant titillation of talented tribes of troops. Or just watch to laugh at the losers, it’s your choice.
