Joshua Perry
Committed 5/11/2015
Position: Safety
Hometown: Amite, Louisiana
Stars: 4
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 190 lbs
Athletic Measurables:
Joshua Perry is a big-bodied safety who can bring a lot to the table by the time he gets to Tuscaloosa. He has great speed (4.5, low 4.4s) and at 6’3″, 190 could even add an extra ten pounds and become another big size safety for Alabama, very similar to Ronnie Harrison. Perry has said that he plans to get his 40 time in the low 4.4s and would like to keep adding weight to his frame by the time he gets to Alabama, which could help him potentially see early playing time.
Instincts & Technique:
Perry is a hitting safety more so than a ballhawking safety. He tackles extremely well, he takes good angles and really puts force into his tackles while still keeping form. Perry uses his size to his advantage, as he should and moves very well. He can go from one end of the play to the next and make the tackle, which really shows his athleticism. Joshua Perry is still a raw talent and can work on his ball skills, but overall could be a good addition to the Tide’s safety depth.
Strengths & Weaknesses:
Strengths: Perry tackles very well and that is his biggest strength and the core of his game, but he also has outstanding athleticism and can make the play on the ball in the box.
Weaknesses: He needs to polish his ball skills before getting to the next level, but that is something that can be taught by the time he gets to Tuscaloosa.
Reminds me of:
Joshua Perry is a great tackler and can make a play on the ball if needed, very similar to current Alabama safety Geno Smith.
