Quick Hits: Alabama now eyes home opener against MTSU

Head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide were at Thomas-Drew Field Monday, preparing for its home opener against Middle Tennessee State. Alabama practiced in sunny, 90-degree weather conditions. Yours truly of TDAM providing some observations.

Notes from Monday’s practice

  • Senior Jake Coker headed one line of quarterbacks, followed by junior Alec Morris. Redshirt sophomore Cooper Bateman led the other group through drills, followed by David Cornwell and Blake Barnett.
  • Wide receiver Chris Black led one group through pass-catching drills, and was followed by Cameron Sims, Richard Mullaney and Derek Kief.
  • Sophomore ArDarius Stewart led the other bunch, followed by Robert Foster, Calvin Ridley, Daylon Charlot and Deionte Thompson.
  • Running backs Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, Bo Scarbrough, Ronnie Clark and Damien Harris were all sporting regular jerseys. Other running backs were in scout-team jerseys.
  • Senior linebacker Dillon Lee was working beside inside ‘backers.’ Lee started at SAM linebacker against Wisconsin. True sophomore Shaun Dion Hamilton was absent.
