Landon Collins has always been a vocal leader never afraid of challenge that is thrown his way. This past Sunday Collins was thrown his most difficult test to date, defeating NFL offenses.
Collins made his NFL debut on Sunday and was eager to show that he could have a long lasting career in the NFL. Prior to Sunday’s game Collins had some choice word for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
“Tony Romo said he’s looking for key matchups,” Collins said. “If he’s going to look for key matchups, he’s going to pick on me. … I’m a rookie. But I mean, he comes towards my way and he won’t be happy.”
When later asked Collins did not back away from his comments saying “I’m definitely confident in myself,” Collins said. “If he comes after me early, it’ll be better for my side so I can get on, get the kinks out and know what I’m going against.”
When game time finally rolled around and it was time for Collins debut he backed up his comments. Collins finished the game with four tackles including a monster his on a Cowboys running back. The Giants defense gave up six play 72 yard drive late in the fourth quarter and were defeated 27-26. Although he was not tested much in the passing game, that could mean that Collins was doing his job after all.
Despite not putting up huge numbers Collins is projected to play a big role with the Giants in 2015, and everyone on the team has confidence in the former Crimson Tide Safety. New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said “Collins has the ability to get the job done in his first NFL season.”
