Not everyone was accounted for last week in Alabama’s trip to Athens, Ga.
Redshirt freshman quarterback David Cornwell was missing in action against the Bulldogs. Limitation on the number of travelers was a primary report, but whatever the case was, the Oklahoma native was not with the team. Cornwell, 6-foot-5, 221 pounds, was one of the frontrunners in Alabama’s quarterback race back in March. Crimson Tide’s head coach Nick Saban raved about his leadership, mobility and mechanics as a passer. He finished fourth in the conversation, falling behind Alec Morris, Cooper Bateman and the starter, Jacob Coker.
Cornwell was a four-star prospect upon enrolling at Alabama in 2014.
An Elite 11 finalist, Cornwell was one of the nation’s top pro-style quarterbacks. He threw for 2,742 passing yards with 27 touchdowns in 2013 as a junior at Norman North High School.
He was dynamic with his feet, totaling 755 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
