At one point in this 2017 recruiting cycle, Alabama had what many considered to be the best running back commitment core in program history. With the nation’s top prospect, 5-star Najee Harris of California and 4-star Tuscaloosa standout, Brian Robinson alone it was already loaded. But they also had 5-star running back Cam Akers of Mississippi too, something that made Alabama fans get the feeling of never having to worry about running back depth ever again.
In March, Akers decommitted from the Tide to open back up his options, but did make it clear that Alabama was not out of the race in any way. Akers has received offers from every major program you can think of and if you watch him play on the field, its clear as to why those offers constantly flow in. The Clinton High School product is the definition of an athletic freak, running a 4.44 40-yard dash and recording a 40.6 inch vertical leap at 5’11.5″ in the The Opening Regional in New Orleans. He finished with a 141.33 rating, the second-best rating in the country. His stellar performance earned him an invite to The Opening Finals, which is held July 5-10 at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
As the 5-star prospect’s recruitment has skyrocketed, he has decided to calm the storm a bit and focus on ten schools, releasing the list via his Twitter account.
