Throwback Thursday: Remembering “Rocky Stop”

In 2005, the Alabama Crimson Tide had its share of trials for a season filled with high expectations. With the loss of Tyrone Prothro for the season, the Tide struggled to find offense, but the defense continued to hold it down nonetheless. During the annual “Third Saturday in October” rivalry with the Tennessee Vols, the Tide found themselves on the cusp of being upset at Bryant-Denny Stadium as the Vols marched down the field late in the fourth quarter.

However, the unexpected happened as Tennessee fullback Corey Anderson took a beautifully called screen-pass, and just before crossing the goal line, he was met by All-American safety Roman Harper who jarred the ball loose with a beautiful form tackle and the ball scooted out of the endzone for a touchback.

The script could not have been written any better as that play will forever go down as one of the best in this heated rivalry. Brodie Croyle would go on to hit DJ Hall for a long bomb down the left sideline to get the Tide into field goal range. Shortly after, Jamie “Money” Christensen sealed the win with a game-winning field goal. See below to relive one of the greatest plays in Alabama history.
