The four-star quarterback has yet to take a snap for Alabama football, but he’s already bought into one of the more overlooked aspects in coach Nick Saban’s process. Mac Jones, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., is one of three guys competing for next season’s starting job, however, a bigger purpose drew his attention last week.

Jones and teammate Mac Hereford (walk-on receiver) took time to spend with children at the Rise School of Tuscaloosa. Located on 600 Johnny Stallings Drive, the Tide duo read to the youth, interacted with them inside the classroom and brought smiles to some on the playground. While much emphasis is placed toward on-field performance, Saban is more so concerned with his players actions in the classroom and in the community.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Jones led The Bolles School to a Florida 4A state championship during his senior year in 2016. He accounted for 3,682 passing yards and 55 touchdowns throughout his tenure.
