Saints RB Mark Ingram, teammates turned away from nightclub for being “too urban”

Chuck Cook - USA TODAY Sports

While many would respond in an aggressive tone, the former Alabama standout is having fun with the situation. For those that know Mark Ingram, he is viewed as a successful professional running back, eloquent speaker, devoted father and loves all things concerning Crimson Tide football.

Contradictory to those statements, a report surfaced on Monday via The Times-Picayune on how Ingram and his teammates were turned away from a London (England) nightclub for being referred to as “too urban.”

Though Merriam-Webster dictionary defines urban as “city”, individuals in today’s pop/hip-hop culture categorize the term as black or in Ingram’s case “too black.” It’s hard to picture the Michigan native as too urban, seeing that he’s never been arrested, was sound on and off the field at Alabama, gave an emotional speech at the 2009 Heisman Trophy presentation and competes with coach Nick Saban in golf tournaments.

Whether Ingram and his teammates stirred a lot of commotion before entering Cirque Le Soir remains to be questioned, but seeing how the venue holds rap artists Waka Flocka and Young Thug—something is definitely not right about not letting 2014 Pro Bowl back inside. Despite the company issuing a public statement on Tuesday, fans of Ingram continue to air out frustration on Twitter. In not letting the moment get to him, the 27-year-old released a series of tweets to social media using the #TooUrban and it’s currently trending.

Ingram and the Saints will face the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium in London on Oct. 1.
