TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Alabama fans could be witnessing another prime time junior college standout on the defensive line, as Isaiah Buggs and company attacked the quarterback play much stronger this week.
After not generating much pressure in last week’s scrimmage, the Crimson Tide’s defensive front forced some sacks, a fumble, a blocked field goal and a couple of interceptions at Bryant-Denny Stadium – per sources.
According to head coach Nick Saban, Buggs has ‘played better each day’ at practice.
“His effort has gotten better,” Saban said. “Discipline in this defense where it’s important for you to do your job and play your gap is kinda new to him. He’s getting in better condition.”
Potentially, Buggs wants to join Da’Shawn Hand and Da’Ron Payne as a starter.
The Ruston, La., native was one of the nation’s top JUCO players in the 2017 recruiting cycle. In two years at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, he recorded 134 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Former Tide players Terrence Cody, Jesse Williams, Quinton Dial, Jarran Reed and D.J. Pettway all achieved success at JUCO and the Capstone. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 292 pounds, Buggs is a load to handle for offensive linemen.
