Alabama player spotlight: RB Josh Jacobs

Alabama running back Josh Jacobs (No. 25) stiff arms a Mississippi State defender in 2016 matchup at Bryant-Denny Stadium: Cedric Mason - Touchdown Alabama Magazine

Alabama fans are expecting him to get more touches next season.

Despite being a hidden recruiting gem in the 2016 cycle, there was nothing hidden about Josh Jacobs’ talent at running back for the Crimson Tide. The 5-foot-10, 209-pounder dazzled the Tide’s coaching staff and his teammates a season ago, despite both having little expectations for him.

He totaled 567 yards rushing with four touchdowns on 85 carries, including a 100-yard performance against the Kentucky Wildcats at Bryant-Denny Stadium. To pair with his speed and vision as a ball carrier, the Oklahoma native also possessed solid hands out the backfield.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts found Jacobs 14 times for 156 yards.

He earned offensive player of the week honors from the Tide’s coaching staff versus Kent State and Kentucky, while his 27-yard touchdown on a blocked punt return against Florida – Southeastern Conference title game  – garnered him with special teams player of the week.

Although it has Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, B.J. Emmons, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson, Alabama can expect the four-star in Jacobs to not take a back seat. Yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine joined Mark Rogers of Mark Rogers TV on Wednesday for a Tide player spotlight on Jacobs.
