Every Alabama fan has a right to be enamored with Crimson Tide defensive back, Minkah Fitzpatrick. A native of Old Bridge, N.J., the five-star athlete has been nothing short of remarkable in his first two seasons. Although he receives much attention, don’t sleep on his teammate and fellow home state player – Anthony Averett.
The rising senior out of Woodbury, N.J., turned in a surprisingly productive season in 2016 as a first-year starter at cornerback. He recorded 48 tackles through 15 games, including three for loss and a sack of Washington Huskies quarterback Jake Browning in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Averett notched a team-high eight pass breakups, and found ways to shut down some of the nation’s most elite receiving targets.
With losing Eddie Jackson to the National Football League, Averett now emerges as a bigger voice on the field and in the locker room where the Tide’s secondary is concerned. In forgoing the NFL Draft, he intends to put up even bigger numbers heading into the upcoming season. Yours truly of TDA Magazine joined Mark Rogers of Mark Rogers TV on Wednesday, to break down Averett in this week’s player profile for Alabama football.
