UA football lands three players on 2017 Associated Press All-America Team

Jason Getz - USA TODAY Sports

Not seeing punter JK Scott or defensive lineman Da’Ron Payne on the list is concerning for University of Alabama football fans, but the Associated Press takes pride with deciphering the best players for its All-America Team when it comes to conferences.

Per Ralph Russo, college football writer for the AP, junior safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, senior offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman and sophomore lineman Jonah Williams were recognized.

Fitzpatrick, winner of Jim Thorpe and Chuck Bednarik awards, was selected for first-team honors after seeing what he was able to do this season. He recorded 52 tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and one interception.

Through 12 games, the New Jersey native lined up at star (nickel), dime linebacker (dime package) and safety while also playing on special teams. He captains a group that ranks first in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 11.5 points per game.

For Bozeman, the second-year center was a second-team selection.

Behind him and Williams – third-team selection – Alabama’s offense stood first in the Southeastern Conference in rushing (265.3 ypg) and was second in the league in both scoring offense (39.1 ppg) and total offense (465.4 ypg).

As for first downs, the Crimson Tide’s 275 ranks four in the conference. In terms of national rankings, it’s 12th in scoring and 10th rushing.

After falling to Clemson in last season’s College Football Playoff National Championship, Alabama will face the Tigers on Jan. 1, 2018 for the semifinal game in New Orleans, La.
