He understands that what he did was out of line, but Mekhi Brown was in the heat of the moment last Monday in a College Football Playoff National Championship where his school – the University of Alabama – would ultimately defeat University of Georgia, 26-23 in overtime.
Brown, who lashed out at an assistant coach following a penalty on kickoff coverage, made his decision to transfer to Tennessee State University official via Twitter on Monday. A story was later reported from Mike Organ of the Tennessean (part of USA TODAY network), confirming Brown’s transfer.
Hailing from Columbus, Ga., the former four-star prospect in the Crimson Tide’s 2015 signing class was recruited by the Tigers during his time at Carver High School.

Brown, a redshirt sophomore, will be able to continue football next season – should he meet the stipulations of the Tigers per the article. The 6-foot-5, 246-pound outside linebacker collected seven total tackles last season, including three solo stops. He has already received much support from teammates at Alabama, as he is now enrolled at TSU and ready to begin a new chapter.
