AJ McCarron ‘excited’ to be in Buffalo, says vibe reminds him of Alabama

Brad Rempel - USA TODAY Sports

Positive energy set in for the Buffalo Bills after it made the playoffs last season for the first time since 1999, however, the addition of AJ McCarron at quarterback has fans very excited.

McCarron, a native of Mobile, Ala., spent four years with the Cincinnati Bengals, until winning his freedom as an unrestricted free agent. He signed a two-year deal worth $16.5 million – $6.5 million based on incentives – on Wednesday and is already saying the atmosphere is special.

“As soon as we landed we had Bills fans come up and talk to us and already started telling us stories (about the team). We are super excited. It’s an awesome situation to be in because my wife and I were talking about how it kind of feels like ‘Bama again. It’s that type of atmosphere and we spent so much time there. I’m telling you it’s just exciting to be here,” McCarron said in his press conference, according to Bills’ senior insider Chris Brown.

After serving as a backup to Andy Dalton, the former University of Alabama quarterback will finally get an opportunity to show what he can do. While he is currently house shopping, Buffalo’s general manager Brandon Beane offered praise toward McCarron on Friday.

“I love that AJ McCarron has an edge to him. He’s a competitor that has done some really nice things in this league. I’m looking forward to watching him compete here,” Beane said via Bills’ Twitter page.

Despite it being on the market for a guy to compete with McCarron, the potential of him leading the Bills on a deep playoff run is very high. Buffalo has weapons at running back, wide receiver and tight end to help the three-time college football national champion be successful.
