After three years of being the Crimson Tide’s primary receiver and heir to the throne left behind by Julio Jones and Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley is headed to the pros. At pick 26, the Atlanta Falcons hope to bolster their receiving corps dramatically with the Alabama star, paired beside one of the best players in the game and former ‘Bama star Julio Jones.
Despite winning a pair of National Championships over three seasons, his numbers suffered through inconsistency at the quarterback position. Jake Coker, who was under center during his freshman year, was able to get him the ball at a much higher clip than Jalen Hurts did over the last two years, but he still found the ball. Nevertheless, the Florida native managed to put up a more-than-respectable 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns on 224 catches.
He will now have Matt Ryan throwing him the ball in Atlanta, so he should finally see some consistency there. Only time will tell, but he looks set for success on this new stage.
Stay tuned in to Touchdown Alabama for more on Calvin Ridley’s fit with his new team and an outlook on his rookie expectations.
