Training camp has yet to arrive for teams in the National Football League, but one former University of Alabama star is doing all he can to plead his case for a roster spot.
He did not have the most productive career for the Crimson Tide; nevertheless, wide receiver Cam Sims is showing the Washington Redskins why he’s an asset. After a strong rookie minicamp and sustaining success in OTA’s, a report came Wednesday from Stephen Czarda of Redskins.com — stating that Sims has caught the attention of the coaching staff at mandatory minicamp.
According to head coach Jay Gruden – from the article – “Sims has taken some nice strides over the last few weeks.” Although he had some early struggles with catching passes from backup quarterback Kevin Hogan, Sims made up for it by securing multiple completions.
The play that drew Gruden’s attention was when Sims snatched a pass on a comeback route in front of a defensive back and turned up field for more yardage. At 6-foot-5 and 214 pounds, the rookie target is the tallest receiver on Washington’s roster right now. He totaled 14 receptions last season with the Tide (one score), but Sims could have a better pro career if he’s healthy.
