VanDarius Cowan transferring to West Virginia

John David Mercer USA Today Sports

A month after being dismissed from the Alabama football team former Alabama linebacker VanDarius Cowan has transferred to West Virginia University. Cowan is set to join the team and claim the final scholarship offer from the 2018 recruiting class. While he is a transfer he will have to sit out the upcoming season but will be eligible for the 2019 season and has three seasons remaining of eligibility.

Cowan was dismissed from Alabama after he was accused of punching another man in the face at a bar in Tuscaloosa. This eventually lead to him being dismissed for a violation of team rules. This was not the first instance of a dismissal as he was dismissed from his high school for poor behavior and was not allowed to play in the US Army All American Bowl.

Cowan played in seven games in 2017 making two tackles. With the graduation of Shaun Dion Hamilton and Rashaan Evans, Cowan appeared to be a big part of the linebacker rotation for this upcoming year.

Cowan is the second player in the past two years to transfer to West Virginia joining former Tide receiver TJ Simmons.
