Former Tide quarterback Blake Sims will get the chance to continue his football career and he’ll get to do it right up the road in Birmingham. Sims announced via his Instagram account that he agreed to terms on a contract with the Alliance of Birmingham of the newly formed American Alliance of Football League. Sims will play quarterback.
This is huge for Sims as he has bounced around the NFL and CFL since his last snap for Alabama. Only in Canada was he given the chance to compete at quarterback but that didn’t last long. He was also a member of the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Buccaneers organizations. Many remember Sims for breaking the Alabama single season passing yards record in 2014. That season he threw for 3,487 yards and 28 touchdowns, leading Alabama to the SEC Title. It will be fun to watch him play in this development league that kicks off in February 2019 after the Super Bowl. The 8 team league will allow players to showcase their ability for a full season with hopes of getting signed by an NFL team. The league is legit and has notable investors such as Hines Ward, Jared Allen, Justin Tuck, and Troy Polamalu who will serve in executive roles. He’ll be coached by Tim Lewis who has extensive NFL coaching experience. All players are signed to 3 year, $250,000 contracts. Best of luck Blake!
