According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport and Kimberly Jones, the New York Giants are unlikely to use the franchise tag of safety Landon Collins. Rapoport reports that the Giants do in fact really like Collins and believe he is a good player, but also believe that the tag number is too high. If the Giants do not use the franchise tag on Collins then he will immediately become a free agent.
This news truly comes as no surprise due to reports back on Feb. 20 saying Collins was cleaning out his locker. Some believed the story to have nothing to do with Collins impending free agency until he tweeted later that day saying, “The stuff in that locker that I have left I do not need?”.
Collins has been one of the best safeties in the NFL since being drafted in the second round by the Giants. There will no doubt be a number of suitable offers and landing spots if, in fact, he hits the open market.
More details to come.
