Nico Johnson talks 2018 Tide defense, names two leaders for 2019 team

With new assistant coaches on staff and experience returning next season, Alabama’s defense anticipates getting back to a dominant style of play.

After struggling to find its identity for much of 2018, the Tide starting locating its leaders for next fall during its semester of spring practice.

Nico Johnson, a linebacker under Nick Saban from 2009 to 2012, was a part of three BCS National Championships, two Southeastern Conference titles and two very good defenses in 2009 and 2011.

He joined Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine during this week’s airing of In My Own Words, to break down the issues with the Crimson Tide’s 2018 unit and who he expects to step up next season.

Johnson named Dylan Moses and Anfernee Jennings as “tone setters.”

Even with him now in coaching, Johnson cares about his Alma mater.

He is ready to see Alabama return to being physical and making teams quit on Saturdays in the fall.
