Former Tide player sees CB Josh Jobe having a huge role next season

Matthew Emmons - USA TODAY Sports

Of the assistant coaches Nick Saban has fielded for next season, Charles Kelly is the one who is unarguably licking his chops the most.

In having 20+ years of experience coaching defensive backs and calling plays as a defensive coordinator, the Alabama native enters Tuscaloosa after spending 2018 at Tennessee and the last five years at Florida State University from 2013-17.

Kelly, a defensive back at Auburn University from 1986-89, inherits a positional group with much experience returning and young talent that’s hungry for action.

The returning starters include players such as Patrick Surtain II, Trevon Diggs, Shyheim Carter, Xavier McKinney and Jared Mayden.

While guys like Daniel Wright, Eddie Smith and Jalyn Armour-Davis look to find where they fit in, one former Tide star is excited about a sophomore cornerback.
