Former Tide DB thinks Brian Robinson Jr. is ready for a “breakout season”

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY Sports

Nothing is more exciting than seeing a homegrown talent have success.

When dissecting Brian Robinson Jr., the junior running back for Alabama football looks to finally have his moment inside Bryant-Denny Stadium as a Tuscaloosa (Ala.) native.

Despite arriving in the same recruiting class as five-star, Najee Harris, Robinson was one of the nation’s elite prospects from Hillcrest High School. As a four-star, he guided the Patriots to back-to-back Class 6A state semifinal playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016.

His versatility as a runner and receiver made him a must sign for the Crimson Tide.

Robinson collected 990 yards rushing, 302 yards receiving and 20 total touchdowns on 185 touchdowns during his senior season. He has been quietly productive through two years under Nick Saban – 437 yards rushing, four scores – but there is a former player that believes the 226-pounder is “prime and ready for a breakout season” upon the Tide taking the field versus Duke.

“I think the dark horse that will do what Josh Jacobs did last year is Brian Robinson,” ex-Alabama defensive back Chris Rogers said. “I have watched him enough; I have talked to him and I want to see what he can do. Knowing his DNA and his fabric, I think Alabama fans that didn’t know him… by the sixth or seventh game, they will see him as the best thing smoking.”

He is a guy that not only runs with power, but Robinson also intends to knock people down and inflict pain on anyone in his way. His skillset as a receiver flashed on A-Day with fans seeing him turn in 52 yards receiving on six catches. While Nick Saban was pleased with both Harris and Robinson in spring practice, sources have mentioned to Touchdown Alabama Magazine on how the latter (Robinson) is more of a physical runner and overall hungry talent for field time.

He has to fend off a freshman in Trey Sanders, but does Robinson make his mark?

Fall camp will be here soon.
