Breaking: Running back Najee Harris Selected to Doak Walker Award Watchlist

via: Marvin Gentry USA Today Sports

The nominations keep on coming for the crimson tide during media days this week. Junior running back Najee Harris was announced as a potential Doak Walker award winner as he was selected to the preseason watchlist.

The Doak Walker Award is handed out to college football’s top running back which is named in the honor of former SMU running back of the same name. If Harris was to take home the award for the 2019-20 season, he would be the third Alabama back to do so joining former stars Trent Richardson(2011) and Derrick Henry(2015).

During the 2018-19 season, Harris was part of a rotation of backs with junior running back Josh Jacobs and senior Damien Harris. Harris was able to rush for 783 yards and four touchdowns on 117 carries during his sophomore campaign.

Now that both have moved onto the NFL it gives Najee the keys to Alabama’s backfield for he is the most experienced one on the roster. Despite him splitting his time for most of his career so far, it is a testament to what he has displayed so far on the field that has caught the voters eyes.
