Is Nick Saban considering adding to Jaylen Waddle’s role?
It seems to look that way, especially with what he stated at SEC Media Days. After turning in an explosive freshman year that included 848 yards receiving and seven touchdowns, the native Texan is back to continue frustrating defensive coordinators and opponents with his playmaking abilities.
Along with being one of five favorite targets for Tua Tagovailoa, the four-star had Tide fans excited every time he returned a punt. Waddle averaged 14.56 yards per return and took one back for a score in Alabama’s win over Louisiana in 2018. Following this, teams started punting the ball away from the man who earned the nickname “Cheetah.”
With the Tide losing Josh Jacobs to the National Football League, an opportunity has become available at kickoff returner. While players such as Henry Ruggs III and Brian Robinson Jr. have experience, Saban named Waddle as someone that “maybe” takes that role.
Could you imagine him at receiver, punt returner and kick returner?
Defenders are already scratching their heads on this one.
Waddle was named SEC Freshman of the Year and made the All-Freshman team for the conference; however, he is looking for more in the fall.
August camp starts in two weeks.
