Was there ever any debate? Doubt? Or even a close second?
Nope.
Sports Illustrated released an article today containing numerous top 10 rankings on a number of topics surrounding college football and one of them was titled The Greatest Programs in College Football History.
To obviously nobodies surprise the Alabama Crimson Tide rolled in at the top spot on the list with a mountain of evidence to support it. The crimson tide is fourth in total wins in and has the most national championships in the history of college football.
Not to mention the program also has the number one and number one and number two coaches of all-time Nick Saban and Bear Bryant. That list was also within the article with Saban coming in at number two behind Bryant (not sure if I agree with that one).
What also cements Alabama as the top program is the team who comes in behind them in the Ohio State Buckeyes. OSU does have the second most all-time wins (only trailing Michigan) but the school has only won two national championships compared to UA’s 17. That right there shows the true gap between Alabama and everybody else.
Below are Sports Illustrated’s rankings of the greatest college football programs:
10. Oklahoma
9. Tennessee
8. Penn State
7. Nebraska
6. Notre Dame
5. USC
4. Texas
3. Michigan
2. Ohio State
1. Alabama
