Shipley is a product of Weddington’s High School in Weddington, North Carolina. The 5-Star product has offers from Clemson, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State and several more schools. Weddington head football coach, Andy Capone, said Shipley’s versatility makes him a great football player.
“He has the ability to be very versatile,” Capone said. “We move him around from running back to wide receiver. He catches the ball out of the backfield and plays safety for us. All of that versatility makes him a great football player. As a running back, he has very good balance. He has great vision and he has a burst, where he can explode and make someone miss and take it to the house. Every time he touches the ball, you expect a big play.”
As a person, Capone describes Shipley as a humble person, that loves to work. Capone said he has seen growth from Shipley as a vocal leader this year.
“He is everything you want in a football player and a leader,” Capone said. “He is a natural leader and is becoming more of a vocal leader. He always led by example, but he is starting to become more vocal now. People respond to him very well and when they see him working, they have no choice, but to work as hard as he does. ”
The Weddington running back currently checks in at 5-11 and weighs 200 pounds. Shipley hits the hole with great speed and can make plays once he gets into the open field. Weddington also likes to show Shipley’s ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.
Capone said there are a few things Shipley is working on to make himself a complete back.
“We talked and he wants to work on his route running out of the backfield and at wide receiver,” Capone said. “He is continuing to work on catching the ball, setting up blocks when he runs and perfecting his vision.”
The Tide will look to get Shipley on campus soon as they try to put their name in the hat for Shipley’s services.
