Is Nick Saban’s 12-0 record against Rocky Top in jeopardy this weekend?! Probably not. But can the Tide cover a five-touchdown point spread against Tennessee? Eh, that might be a different story. As of Thursday morning, Alabama is a -34.5 favorite over the Volunteers, with the total set at 61 points.
‘Bama fans, where do you stand on the defense so far this season? On one hand, it appears that this year’s Alabama defense is a small step behind previous versions. The Tide have given up 23+ points in each of their three SEC games this season. They are outside the top-40 in yards allowed per rushing attempt, sack percentage, and first downs allowed.
But on the other hand, the defense is on the field so much because the offense is scoring so efficiently. Last week against Texas A&M, the Tide scored on drives of 3, 3, 5, and 5 plays. That’s a quick turn-around for the boys on defense, and it’s hard to fault them for some of the numbers they’ve allowed this season.
