Failed expectations and frustration led to Antonio Alfano leaving Alabama

The top-rated prospect – via most recruting sites – from Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class officially became the latest name in the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday.

For a school that is use to attracting five-star talents, the University of Alabama has lost two marquee players in back-to-back classes. After seeing the enigma that is Eyabi Anoma leave the program before the season started, Antonio Alfano has also exited and looking for a new place.

A native of Colonial, N.J., Alfano was regarded as the No. 1 prospect overall and No. 1 at his position (defensive line) by almost every recruiting network. He was the most talked about athlete in the haul of the six defensive linemen signed to the Crimson Tide in February.

In between him enrolling early and the decision the leave the Tide, some are perplexed and ponder on what made the situation go wrong for Alfano. Was he promised playing time and did not get it? Did he get homesick? Was Nick Saban and Alabama just not the fit?

All three questions surfaced upon the minds of supporters; however, sources have confirmed with yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine on what really happened.

Despite the truth of the story on his grandmother being sick, the bigger issue is that recruiting sites and his own ego failed him.
