Early Sunday morning Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa underwent surgery on his right ankle just one day after the team’s game with Tennessee. The injury originally occurred during the second quarter where he suffered a high ankle sprain when getting tackled from his lower body.
Nick Saban and Alabama released a statement on the injury to Tagovailoa.
“Tua Tagovailoa suffered a high ankle sprain last night against Tennessee. Out physicians performed a successful tight-rope procedure on his right ankle this morning. This is the same injury but the opposite ankle that Tua injured last season. Tua will miss next week’s game against Arkansas, but we expect a full speedy recovery.”
Last season both Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts underwent the same ankle surgery during the season and both were able to return and contribute.
All eyes now turn to redshirt sophomore quarterback Mac Jones who finishing last Saturday’s game completing 6/11 passes for 72 yards.
During his press conference, last night Saban originally believed that Tagovailoa would be out for maybe one or two weeks. If all goes according to plan that means that Tagovailoa will be back and ready for the Crimson Tide’s matchup with LSU on Nov. 9.
