Alabama’s wide receiver group is arguably the best in the nation and one of the Tide’s verbal commits is striving to fit right in among the talent group.
4-Star wide receiver, Javon Baker, put everyone a notice during the camp and 7v7 circuit in the Summer. His hard work has translated to the gridiron and real game action. The McEachern product said he has been working on some improvements this season.
“I been working on my yards after the catch and being more physical with the ball, tucking it in right away,” Baker said.

The Tide’s current wide receiver group loves to make plays after the catch and has destroyed opposing defenses with slant routes on the RPO. As Baker continues to work at being more effective with the ball in his hands, his chances of making an early impact go up substantially. According to Maxpreps, Baker has 380 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the season so far.
The Indians have used Baker in several ways this season as they have attempted to get the ball in his hands. The 4-Star recruit also has a rushing touchdown on the season. Although he did not have any eye-opening stats in his last outings, Baker did the little things against Marietta High School.
Alabama 4-Star WR commit, @javondbaker7, toughness leaps out every time I see him. Kid is tenacious when blocking and McEachern likes to get the ball in his hands via the sweep or just simply handing it off as he sometimes lines up in the backfield. pic.twitter.com/1fMDx6vXkb

“We just get back at it on Monday, go to practice and do the same thing we been doing,” Baker said after McEachern beat Marietta. “We are going to work hard and continue to do our thing.”
There is a chance Alabama will lose their top three wideouts at the end of this season and the door will be wide open for a freshman or a current back up to make an impact next season.
Baker’s toughness is what separates him from other wide receivers as he loves to battle in man to man coverage. It could be what leads him to be a good wide receiver for the Tide.
The entire Alabama fan base will get to see Baker in action at the All-American Bowl in January live on NBC.
Alabama’s 2020 class has three wide receivers in it at the moment. The Tide will look to add a couple of more before this class is finished.
