Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s rehab is becoming more and more clear as ESPN’s Laura Rutledge added some needed context to the juniors recovery.
On Monday Rutledge reported that the hip injury Tagovailoa suffered was, in fact, different from the career-ending one former Auburn running back Bo Jackson had in the NFL.
Important note on Tua from Dr. Cain: his hip injury is completely different from Bo Jackson’s. Bo didn’t know his injury was severe & kept playing on it, causing irreparable damage. Docs acted quickly for Tua & after successful surgery today, I’m told experts expect full recovery

“Bo didn’t know his injury was severe & kept playing on it, causing irreparable damage,” Rutledge wrote on Twitter. “Docs acted quickly for Tua & after successful surgery today, I’m told experts expect a full recovery.”
Tagovailoa originally suffered a dislocated hip when he was sacked by a pair of Mississippi State defenders just before halftime on Saturday. He was immediately carted off of the field and flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Then on Monday Tagovailoa was flown yet again to Houston where he underwent surgery.

After already calming the worrisome Alabama fanbase Rutledge provided another update on Tagovailoa. This time the frequent Get Up and SEC Nation commentator, reported what the road ahead for Tagovailoa looked like. This time it was through the Twitter account of ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Tua Tagovailoa will be on a partial weight bearing recovery plan for six weeks and will be rehabbing daily in Tuscaloosa, per @LauraRutledge. Then, in three months, he will be able to begin athletic activity again, and by the spring, he is expected to be able to resume throwing.

Judging by the times laid out Tagovailoa should be able to begin throwing again roughly around mid-April. Should he declare for the NFL Draft he will not be able to participate in the NFL Combine or in Alabama’s Pro Day in Tuscaloosa.
