Alabama fans are not happy with this.
Three finalists were selected for the Fred Biletnikoff Award on Monday, and neither DeVonta Smith nor Jerry Jeudy of the Crimson Tide made the cut. Named after College and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver, Fred Biletnikoff, the Biletnikoff honor is presented annually to be nation’s best receiver in college football.
Jeudy won it last year as a sophomore, posting 1,315 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns on 68 catches.
He will not be able to retain his crown.
He chimes in this season with 66 catches (team-high) for 933 yards and nine scores.
As for Smith, he has had an incredible campaign.
The Louisiana native and former four-star leads the Tide in receiving yards (1,120), touchdowns (13) and yards per game average (101.8), while being seventh in the NCAA for yards and tied for third in scores.
Smith has more receptions and yards than Ceedee Lamb of Oklahoma (46 catches, 999 yards), but Lamb is one of the three finalists. Ja’Marr Chase of LSU and Michael Pittman Jr. of the University of Southern California (USC) are the other two.
Smith has more scores than Pittman, 13-11.
The duo of Smith and Jeudy have six 100-yard performances, and Smith turned in two 200-yard games versus Ole Miss (274) and LSU (213).
With the talent that Alabama has littered over the field, it is incredible to see how both Jeudy and Smith have 60-plus catches on the season.
Both stars for the Tide got snubbed and in facing Auburn this week, Alabama will look to unload anger versus its defensive secondary.
