Lane Kiffin draws comparison between Nick Saban and Shawshank Redemption character

Not even a month on the job and Lane Kiffin is making news across all outlets as if it was SEC media days. Kiffin who was named the new Ole Miss head coach last Saturday has been no stranger to making eccentric comments especially when related to Alabama head coach Nick Saban. For the most part, the new head coach of the Rebels’ comments has always been in good fun and shows a great deal of appreciation for Saban on social media.

And he was no different when speaking on the Dan Patrick Show last Wednesday.

“It’s why he’s so good he is singularly focused on University of Alabama and football at Alabama every minute of every day,” said Kiffin. “Even if he’s golfing or even he’s on a boat. He’s got his recruiting calls to make every night whether it’s Christmas or whatever it is it doesn’t matter. Every day he’s the same and that’s why he’s so good.”

But Kiffin decided to take it even a step further by drawing comparisons to Shawshank Redemption character Brooks Hatlen.

In the film, Brooks is a convict who is released from prison and cannot adapt to the real world because he is so used to his old lifestyle. In this case, Kiffin believes Saban is the same way, no matter where he is or what he is doing he can’t shake being a head football coach and will be doing it for years and years to come.

“I mean what else is he gonna do?” said Kiffin.
