Just when you thought Nick Saban would go through an offseason without conducting a coaching search.
It was reported earlier Monday morning by AL.com’s Matt Zenitz that current Alabama defensive line coach Brian Baker is expected to move to an off the field coaching position. 2019 was Baker’s first season as the Crimson Tide’s defensive line coach which was a group which saw a lot of injuries and inexperience.
As of right now, the number one target is seemingly Ole Miss defensive line coach Freddie Roach. Roach who also played for Alabama from 2002-05, worked in a support staff capacity for the tide in 2015 and 2016.
Zenitz also reports that Roach will be in Tuscaloosa on Monday.
To add some more fuel to this bonfire of drama is that it would mean Saban would be poaching away a Lane Kiffin assistant not even one season into his tenure at Ole Miss. On Saturday, Ole Miss had announced that Kiffin would retain Roach in the same position and that he would also have titles of assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator.
This post will be updated.
